Don't be too proud of this technological terror you constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
~ Darth Vader to Admiral Motti on the first Death Star.

There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you. Luke, you do not yet realize your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy.
~ Darth Vader after defeating Luke Skywalker.

Vader: Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Vader: No. I am your father.
~ Vader's famous quote in his exchange with Luke.

  • He starred in the 49th episode of the internet series, Death Battle, Darth Vader VS Doctor Doom.
  • Darth Vader made a cameo appearance in Fatal Fiction Episode 8: Rocky Balboa vs Little Mac due to the fact he's a fan of Rocky Balboa.
  • Interestingly enough, Vader hates sand.
  • Because Anakin had the potential two be twice as strong as Sidious but ended up being 80% his strength due to his injuries instead, Vader's power is officially 40% what it could have been if he had never lost at Mustafar.
  • Darth Vader has actually become such an icon in pop culture that his face has been carved onto Washington D.C.'s National Cathedral.
  • Throughout his lifetime, Vader has lost his right arm a total of 7 times, 2 of which happened in the movies.
  • Of all the Star Wars products that have ever been sold, the ones themed after Darth Vader are the best selling, even outmatching the other iconic characters of the franchise.
  • Vader is known for his iconic helmet, but this did not feature in the early designs. George Lucas originally imagined the character as wearing a black silk scarf over his face. Ralph McQuarrie, who drew concept art for many of the beloved characters, designed the helmet as an alternative, imagining that Vader would wear the helmet when moving between ships, sort of like an astronaut suit. Eventually, it was decided that the character would wear the helmet all the time. A variety of inspirations contributed to how the helmet was designed. Lucas suggested a samurai influence in the shape of the back of the helmet. Costume designer John Mollo also took inspiration from Nazi uniforms.
  • It's hard to imagine now, but the fact that Vader was Luke Skywalker's father was a big secret that the filmmakers went to great lengths to protect from getting leaked. According to Mark Hamill, only George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, and himself knew when they were filming, in addition to James Earl Jones, who would later speak the famous lines. Hamill claimed that he needed to know so that his reaction would be believable, but was warned by Kershner that if he told anyone, including his co-stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, they would know that it was him who leaked the story. On set, David Prowse had been instructed to say "Obi-Wan killed your father," so a majority of the technicians, actors and crew members did not know the truth until the film debuted.
  • In the earlier script of The Empire Strikes Back that was written by Leigh Brackett, Darth Vader and Anakin were supposedly separate entities: Darth Vader was Anakin's murderer and when Luke confronted Vader, Anakin's spirit would guide him in their battle. George Lucas was disappointed with this as this likely wouldn't improve the saga, though unfortunately, Leigh had died before they could discuss this. So, he made the plot twist where Anakin and Vader were the same person and Vader revealed this to Luke, which not only was enjoyable for Lucas himself, but also became arguably the most memorable event in the franchise.
  • When Return of the Jedi was released on Blu-ray, Vader saying "No" in his redemption scene was added.
